Airman First Class, Luis Manuel Vazquez, 18, of Alliance, Nebraska, died Monday, January 10, 2011 in Knob Noster, Missouri.
Luis Manuel Vazquez was born August 25, 1992 in Alliance, Nebraska. He graduated from Alliance High School in 2010, where he was involved in many school activities, including track, cross country, and theatre, where it was said he was the best flying monkey they ever had. He was also the basketball team manager and was dedicated to his job. He played the clarinet in the High School band. He joined the Air Force right after he graduated and completed basic military training in July of 2010 at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Security Forces Technical School in November of the same year and spent two weeks working with the Air Force recruiter in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He then moved to Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri, where he was assigned until his life was cut short. Luis had lots of dreams and a great future. He lived for just 18 years but he made more friends than anybody could imagine.
He is survived by his little brother, Jose Miguel Vazquez; parents, Manuel and Rosa Vazquez; grandparents, Casildo and Amada Vazquez and Juanita Aguallo; uncles, Juan Vazquez and Ramiro Vazquez; and his aunts, Maria Herrera and Blanca Inigues. Great son, brother, friend and soldier; his kindness and beautiful smile will always be remembered!!!
A military memorial service was held Tuesday, January 18 at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri. His cremains were then escorted back to his home town of Alliance, Nebraska.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, January 21, at 2:00 p.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father James Heithoff officiating. Inurnment will be in the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery. Wake services will be held Thursday, January 20, at 7:00 p.m. at the church.
