Biography

Harold R. Vetter, 79, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Good Samaritan Health Care Center after an extended illness.

Harold was born June 30, 1931 to Julius and Irma Vetter at Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Harold was baptized, confirmed and ordained in the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. He attended Wisconsin Conservatory of Music and graduated from Concordia Seminary at St. Louis in l955. Harold served parishes in Ellicottville and Ashford, New York, Bridgeport, Bayard, Crawford and Harrison, Nebraska, and Fairmount North Dakota. As pastor with the Evangelical Lutheran Synod, Harold serviced parishes in Savannah, Georgia, Suttons Bay and Traverse City, Michigan, and Portage, Wisconsin Dells and Iola Wisconsin.

On June 30, 1967 he married Dorothie Ostermeyer of Crawford at Battle Creek, Nebraska. Harold retired in 2004 and they moved to Alliance. He became a resident of Good Samaritan Health Care Center in 2006.

He is survived by his brother Eugene (Joan) Vetter of Mazomanie, Wisconsin; numerous nieces and nephews; three step-children, Saundra (Jack) Peterson and Cheryl (Ed) McDuffie all of Alliance, and Bill Ostermeyer of Kilbourne, Illinois; 9 step-grandchildren, 15 step-great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothie, his parents, his sister Elaine Bartel, his brother Donald Vetter, and his step-grandson Jason Fero.

Memorial services will be held Monday, September 13, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with Reverend's Martin T. Schnare and Richard C. Mueller officiating.
